Home Buying

Love covered bridges? This Conn. home on the market has one.

The property, set on just under an acre, is one of three with unique designs in the neighborhood, according to the owner.

With a covered bridge to the front door, the “Bridge House” certainly lives up to its name.

The two-bed, 1.5-bath home at 21 Colony Circle in Glastonbury, Conn., is on the market for $525,000.

“It’s a covered bridge that kind of walks over the ground, and as it goes on, you get higher and higher from the ground below you,” said Jonathan Archer of the Margaret Wilcox Team at William Raveis, who has the listing.

Owner Lynne Pierson, who has lived in the home for 33 years, told Boston.com that it was constructed in 1976 by a “local fella” who built three unique properties in the neighborhood. While he wasn’t an architect, Pierson said, he was “certainly creative.”

Set on just under an acre, the 2,197-square-foot home is four levels.

Step inside the front door, which has the original porthole-style window and a built-in bench.

From the foyer, the 144-square-foot dining room is to the left, and, straight ahead, a staircase spirals to a loft, an 85-square-foot space that could serve as a home office.

The kitchen, found past the dining room, is filled with natural light from a row of windows overhead. “It’s almost like a waterfall of windows,” Archer said. “It’s a cascading wall of natural light.”

Stainless steel appliances, a rich red tile backsplash, hardwood floors, and enough space for a small seating area make up the 168-square-foot space.

Step into the hallway behind the kitchen, where the sloping hardwood ceilings and expanse of windows continue, and you will enter the 279-square-foot living room. It is divided into two sitting areas. The first centers on the brick wood-burning fireplace, while the other is under an angled wall of windows. A slider opens to a deck, one of four on the home.

Take the stairs down to the lower level, where you’ll find the two bedrooms, a full bath, and a half bath. The first bedroom, which measures 243 square feet, features a fireplace repurposed as a TV inset, two closets, and deck access. The second bedroom, which measures 194 square feet, offers a sloped wall of windows and an en-suite half bath that was updated a few years ago.

These bedrooms share a full bath with a tub and shower and three closets: two linen and a laundry one.

Down another level, there’s a den/rec room that measures 292 square feet. A slider opens to the ground-level deck and fenced-in dog area. French doors lead to an additional room (277 square feet) that could be used as a study. It has a 69-square-foot closet.

“I have beautiful views of sunsets at night. I’ve got a nighttime view of Hartford, and the sunsets, they are absolutely gorgeous,” said Pierson, who updated the kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, and windows about 10 years ago.

The central air conditioning was updated in 2016, and the furnace the following year. The water heater is two years old, and the roof was redone six years ago. There is no garage.

“I hope whoever buys it loves it as much as I have,” Pierson said.
