Step through the front door of 10 Harding St. in New Bedford and back in time.
The three-bed, 2.5-bath home, listed for $599,900, has been impeccably maintained with its 20th-century decor.
Owned by one family since it was built in 1955, the 2,586-square-foot home, set on a 0.41-acre lot, is now making its debut onto the market.
“They just kept it the way it was,” said Steven Mazza of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty, who is the co-listing agent on the New Bedford property with Joseph Pollack.
The home sits on a flat, grassy corner spot across from Buttonwood Park. Step inside the foyer, which features white marble floors, built-in seating, and metallic blue wallpaper.
Continue inside, on the matching plush carpet, to the front hall, where it’s a few steps down to the roughly 380-square-foot sunken living room, which has aqua walls and a picture window.

It’s a few steps up across the way to get to the 214-square-foot corner dining room, which has wide windows, the original tiered-glass chandelier, and blue fern wallpaper on a white background.

The dining room connects to the eat-in kitchen, which is lined with cabinetry, including over the peninsula (remember that Seinfeld episode?). The white cabinets have smooth fronts, the floor is a sandy-colored tile, and the counters are pink. Two expansive windows in the kitchen and the eating area bring in a lot of natural light. The kitchen also has a built-in desk and a door to the patio. The blinds match the paint-splatter wallpaper, which is carried into the laundry room.

The 304-square-foot family room is one of the most interesting spaces in the home. The working fireplace is clad in stone, and the built-in desk and bookshelves mean the space could easily function as a home office. Don’t miss the lively, colorful ceilings. The bookshelves and desk are painted orange to match. There’s even a hidden, custom-built bar with a pass-through to the kitchen.
“There are endless closets and built-in storage areas,” Mazza said. “You open the door, and there’s a built-in stereo with a turntable and speakers built into the wall.”

Back in the hallway, you’ll find a blue full bathroom with a tub.
The right side of the house is composed of three bedrooms, including the 408-square-foot primary suite, which has multiple closets and its own bathroom with dual sinks and a mirrored wall.
The two remaining bedrooms measure 133 and 184 square feet, respectively. Each is adorned with colorful wallpaper. One has blue shag carpet. A hallway cedar closet provides extra storage.

The home also comes with a 507-square-foot attached two-car garage, offering easy entrance to the house through the laundry room. The home is equipped with central air and gas heat and also has a semi-finished basement. (You’ll find another bar down here, a staple of mid-century modern homes, as well as a half bath.)
The period furnishings are not included in the listing price of this New Bedford home, but they could be negotiated, Mazza said.
