Listed: For $1,878,000, a chic contemporary townhouse in Lexington
In a town known for its historic roots and historic homes, this contemporary townhouse at 5 Utica St. in Lexington breaks the Colonial-era mold.
The 3,240-square-foot property, listed as Unit 5, is attached to a twin property on its right. The five-bed, five-bath home hit the market Dec. 29 for $1,878,000. Ann Marie Barr, of Barrett Sotheby’s International Realty, has the listing. The home was built and designed Barr’s husband, James Barr, and son, Michael Barr, of Westview Homes Development.
The building’s chic style starts with the white and wood exterior, complemented by the matching black garage doors (one for each unit). The front doors are also black, with sidelights that let natural light into the foyer.
In Unit 3, the open plan dining room, kitchen, and living room are to the right, with white walls and white oak floors. A double-door stainless steel refrigerator, white quartz countertops, and a waterfall island are among the modern features in the kitchen. Stylish pendant lights hanging over the island bathe the room in light.
The kitchen slips seamlessly into the living room, where a slider opens to the back patio. The wall-mounted gas fireplace has a wood-paneled surround. This, along with black trim on the windows and the slider, add striking pops of color to the softer walls and floors.
A door from the living room opens into the office, which connects to a full bathroom with a shower.
The second level has the owner suite, two bedrooms, and a laundry room. The owner bedroom has two walk-in closets and an ensuite bathroom with steel-gray ceramic tile flooring and a walk-in shower. There’s wood wainscoting behind a rectangular soaking tub, and two rectangular vessel sinks sit atop the vanity, which has dark quartz countertops. The other two bedrooms each have double-door closets and ensuite bathrooms with showers. All three have the same white oak floors as the level below.
A fourth bedroom with a double-door closet is on the third floor, along with a “bonus room,” that could serve as a playroom, sitting room or office, Barr said.
The finished basement, which is included in the square footage, is home to the fifth bedroom, with another double-door closet and ensuite bathroom. This level also includes a home gym, with rigid core vinyl flooring and a wall of floor-to-ceiling mirrors.
There’s room for two cars in the garage, and four more in the driveway. Dedicated parking is assigned to each of the two units. The backyard has rows of hedges and a stone patio with a built-in fire pit, which is shared between the two units.
