Hanover is one of the best suburbs in the United States for home buyers seeking more space for less money without straying too far from the city, according to a Realtor.com list published Tuesday.

Houses in the Boston area’s urban ZIP codes work out to $350 per square foot, while the average home in the Plymouth County town costs $231 per square foot, offering savings of 34 percent, according to the report. In other words, choosing a 2,000-square-foot property in Hanover instead of one in the city would save buyers $238,000 on average. The median listing price in Hanover is $670,000.

Here’s what Realtor.com had to say about the No. 6 spot on its list:

While Hanover is a 30-minute drive to Boston, the town’s 14,000 residents maintain a “country town” atmosphere. Hanover offers shopping malls, parks, trails and sports fields. Ponds, streams and rivers, which join the historic North River as it flows to the Atlantic Ocean, provide both summer and winter recreational opportunities such as fishing and canoeing. Hanover has highly-rated schools, including South Shore Vocational Technical High School.

The No. 1 suburb on the list was Sickerville, N.J., southeast of Philadelphia. Two other Northeastern suburbs made the list: Clark, N.J. (close to New York City) and Ashton-Sandy Spring, Md. (between Washington, D.C., and Baltimore).
