St. Mary’s of the Bay church in Hull was converted into a private home when the Catholic Church sold it about 25 years ago, and now the property is on the market for $999,000.

“They wanted a castle,” listing agent Diane Marchione of Jack Conway Realtor said of the owners. “And this was the closest they could get.”

The church still has all of its stained glass and one confessional. An altar served as the owners’ dining table. They used the adjoining chapel as a rec room.

Much of the church’s elegant woodwork are on display, and Marchione said the exposed beams and high ceilings make the space still feel church-like.

The structure at 110 Highland Ave.  was built in 1928, according to Marchione. Though the space is a single-family home now, she said, it could be converted into a different kind of building, such as a bed and breakfast, if that’s what the buyer was looking for.

Seated just a short walk from Hull Bay, the stone and stucco home has gorgeous water views and is a quick trip to the commuter boats to Boston. It also has a patio and more than half of an acre of landscaped grounds.

The first-floor master suite includes a spa tub and walk-in closet, and the kitchen countertops are granite.

The converted church has five bedrooms, 3.5 baths, and a fireplace. It offers more than 10,000 square feet of living space.

If you’re interested in viewing this church-turned-home, an open house is scheduled for Sunday from 12 to 2 p.m.
