Listed: For $8.5 million, four Beacon Hill brownstones
The property has been slip up into 16 apartments. The historic interior elements have been removed.
For those who have thought of buying a home on Beacon Hill, there’s currently an opportunity to purchase a big chunk of the storied neighborhood.
A large swath of Irving Street is for sale — four consecutive brownstones with historic exteriors at a combined price tag of $8,500,000.
The buildings at 46-54 Irving St. come with much of the brownstone charm on the outside, but are split into 16 apartments on the inside, according to listing agent Kristie Aussubel of Presidential Properties. They have the same owner.
“They have the stained glass, the cement moldings, the notable brownstone brick,” Aussubel said. Inside, the historic details have been removed and most of the apartments are leased – the company kept three vacant come Sept. 1 with the idea that if a contractor became interested in the properties, he or she might want some of the space to be empty.

The buildings need work, according to Aussubel, and that’s reflected in the listing price. All together, the buildings offer 44 rooms, 28 bedrooms, and 16 full bathrooms with a total of 11,284 square feet, according to information obtained from the Multiple Listing Service.
Since the buildings hit the market Aug.6, Aussubel said, she’s shown the properties 43 times. It’s been a variety of buyers, including contractors, investors, acquisition firms, and landlords. There hasn’t been a person, couple, or family who has requested a showing, though.
“It’s all been people who are really experienced in purchasing real estate,” she said. There have been “several” offers, but none have met the seller’s terms — close to the asking price with a quick close. All of the offers have been from those who already own other property on Beacon Hill, she said.
