An MLB pitcher donated his $9 million Missouri mansion to charity
The 10-bedroom, 13-bath, six-half bath home with more than 1,700 feet of lake shoreline access was unfinished, leaving the buyer to choose the interior.
Back in August, Texas Rangers’ pitcher Cole Hamels put his 32,000-square-foot Branson, Mo., mansion on the market, according to Realtor.com. The 10-bedroom, 13-bath, six-half bath home with more than 1,700 feet of lake shoreline access was unfinished, leaving the buyer to choose the interior.
At the time, the sprawling property was listed for $9,750,000. It’s no longer on the market, but no one bought it.
Hamels, along with his wife, Heidi, decided to gift the home to Camp Barnabas, a Missouri-based non-profit organization that provides camping experiences for kids with special needs and chronic illnesses.
“Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it,” Hamels said in a statement. “Barnabas makes dreams come true, and we felt called to help them in a big way.”
It is the largest gift in the non-profit’s 24-year history.
“Our mission is to change lives through disability ministry, and we’ve been strategically looking for ways to expand our ministry outside of a summer camp,” Jason Brawner, CEO of Camp Barnabas, said in a statement. “We have no doubt that this gift will allow us to do just that.”
The home sits on 100 acres next to Table Rock Lake.
According to the Springfield News-Leader, the Hamels thought this would be their dream home, but they ended up living in Texas, where Cole still pitches.
“This is so much more than a beautiful property,” Krystal Simon, chief development officer of Camp Barnabas, said in a statement. “This incredible gift allows us to further our ministry and truly change thousands of lives for years to come.”
