Built at the edge of the Sudbury River on 7.8 acres of land, this Wayland home’s history dates back to 1940 when it was designed by the famed Marcel Breuer and Walter Gropius of the Bauhaus architectural movement.

Walter Gropius was a German immigrant who was the founder of Bauhaus, a German design school. He moved to Cambridge in 1937 to teach at Harvard, where he would later form The Architects Collaborative, a group dedicated to the modernist movement.

Spread amongst the more typical New England architectural styles — Colonial, Shingle, Cape — are contemporary homes built by Gropius and other members of The Architects Collaborative. These homes feature geometric shapes, open-concept layouts and a lot of glass, while at the same time using materials native to the area.
