There were only three states where the average home values for single women owners were higher those owned by single men. Michael J. Lee

A new report from RealtyTrac, a housing data and analytics company, has discouraging news for single women buying homes — unless they’re buying in Massachusetts.

According to the RealtyTrac report about gender and home profitability, homes owned by single men nationwide are worth an average of 10 percent more than those owned by single women, and their value is appreciating faster. The average market value of a single man’s home is currently $255,226, while women’s homes are worth an average of $229,094.

There are three states, however, where average home values for single women owners are higher than for those owned by single men. Massachusetts is one of these states, as average home values for single women are 11 percent higher than for men. The other two states are Kentucky (2 percent higher) and Kansas (1 percent higher).

Massachusetts is also one of only eight states where single women owners have seen their homes gain more value since purchasing than men have seen.
