The 50 safest cities in Massachusetts have been ranked, and spoiler alert, Boston didn’t make the list.
Safety and home security company SafeWise released its annual ranking of the 50 safest cities in Massachusetts, and 36 of them were on the list for the second year in a row.
The list considered cities with a resident population greater than 8,000. The rankings were based on FBI Crime Report stats from 2013 of incidents of property crimes like arson, burglary, vehicle theft, larceny-theft, and violent crimes like robbery, murder, aggravated assault, and rape.
The top five cities included Sharon, Duxbury, Clinton, Norfolk. Wayland ranked number one with a violent crime rate of only 0.37 incidents per 1,000 people, and a property crime rate of 3.13 incidents per thousand people.
