The most hectic neighborhoods for buying a house
There are a lot of homes to choose from, but you’d better choose fast.
We know that in many Boston suburbs, homes are selling really fast. In June, real estate data firm Redfin reported that homes in were spending an average of 14 days on the market, making it a record low for the area. Boston.com got a peek at August number from Redfin that showed some towns were significantly below that record.
Now we’ve got numbers for neighborhoods in Boston proper (and a few just outside), and there are similar patterns at play for many areas throughout the city.
Homes in Jamaica Plain, the South End, and Newtonville spent a median of seven days on the market in August, despite the fast that dozens of homes sold in each neighborhood. Home sellers, on average, also got more than 100 percent of their asking price in those hotspots.
We sorted through Redfin’s data to find what we consider the “busiest’’ real estate markets in August. These are towns where at least 30 home sales were completed over the course of the month, but the median number of days on market remained low.
See where homes sold the fastest in the Boston area:
Other highlights included the seven homes near the Prudential Center that sold in August with a median price of $1,050,000 after being on the market for a median of four days. On the other end of the spectrum, there were seven homes that sold near Riverdale with a median sale price of $320,000 and a median of 77 days on the market.
