Here’s something unsurprising yet totally depressing: It’s super expensive to live in New England. Like, almost all of New England.

Four of the six New England states made CNBC’s list of the 10 most expensive places to live. Only New Hampshire and Maine were excluded. Connecticut was ranked the second most expensive state in the nation, with Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont coming in eighth through 10th.

As for the most expensive state? Hawaii. A five-pound sack of potatoes cost $6.48. The average home price in the Honolulu area is $868,317, compared to $525,000 in Massachusetts.

“But again, at least you’re living in Hawaii,’’ wrote CNBC.
