A house in Jamaica Plain is making use of the latest in sustainable technology, including panels that could actually leave you with some extra cash at the end of the month.

The three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 2,128-square-foot home at 45 Wyman St. is for sale for $885,000. It has a SolarCity utility system on the roof that was designed by Tesla founder, Elon Musk.

According to the Solar City website, if your solar power creates more energy than your personal home needs, it flows into the utility grid and some utility companies will credit you the money. According to Michael Breer, the listing agent for Sotheby’s International Realty, this home has one of those utility companies, and especially in the summer has been making some money.

In Massachusetts specifically, switching to solar power could save you an average of $36.44 per month or almost $19,000 over a 25-year lease, according to Solar Power Rocks.

And that is not the only “green’’ feature of the home.

“The home was designed with sustainability in mind,’’ Breer said.

It has an electric car charger on the side of the house and Nest thermostats, which can be controlled by smartphone and is programmable. According to Nest’s website, having a schedule for your thermostat when you are not home and keeping it at a lower temperature can help save in energy costs.

The home also has a walkability score of 91 out of 100, given its close access to public transportation and Jamaica Plain center.

“It does come with three parking spaces, but one could easily live without any car,’’ Breer said.
