Snapshots from ‘International Women’s Day’ events across the globe
Women across the world are participating in rallies, demonstrations, and other events to mark International Women’s Day on Wednesday.
The United Nations began formally recognizing March 8 as International Women’s Day in 1975, though the history of the day dates all the way back to the early 1900s. Each year, the U.N. picks a theme, and this year’s is “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030.”
As part of International Women’s Day, the organizers of the Women’s March on Washington in January are calling on supporters to participate in ‘A Day Without a Woman’ by staying home from work, wearing red in solidarity, and refraining from spending money.
Here are photos of International Women’s Day events around the world.
