South Korean President Park Geun Hye accepted her prime minister’s resignation following intense criticism over the government’s investigation into an April 16 ferry crash, according to the BBC.

Prime Minister Chung Hong Won will stay in office until the government finishes its probe into the ferry sinking, Bloomberg reported.

The death toll from the ferry crash has reached 183 people, but dozens more are still missing. The families of the missing and dead have argued the government was too slow in its rescue, recovery and investigation, reported the BBC.

The move is largely symbolic, according to the Associated Press.
