$40K Can Buy a Boston Wedding or Cover a Career’s Worth of Commuting
Would you rather get married, or pay for your commute for 42 years?
Ludicrous as it sounds, that’s really an either-or-scenario based on data from popular wedding site The Knot. It released average wedding prices in cities around the U.S., and the results show that (surprise, surprise) getting married is EXPENSIVE.
Boston came in 14th on the list, with an average wedding cost of $38,665. Although this is much better than the $76,328 it costs to get married in Manhattan, that’s still a huge chunk of change for just one day.
Here are five other ways you could be spending the nearly $40K.
You could buy a medium Dunkin’ Donuts coffee every day for the next 41 years.

It’s enough to pay rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Boston for 17 months.

Even with the most expensive tickets in the MLB, you could still see every Red Sox home game, and sip on a beer each time, for 8 years.

You could have a dinner date at Boston’s most expensive restaurant every Saturday night for over 2 years.

It could cover the cost of commuting for your entire professional career: purchasing 42 years’ worth of monthly MBTA passes.
