Keurig plans to cut 200 jobs in Vermont

Thursday brought bad news for some Keurig employees.

The company, known for its single-cup coffee brewers, plans to cut 200 employees in Vermont, most of them located in Waterbury, the Associated Press reported.

The layoffs follow a 27 percent drop in sales this quarter. To compensate, the Waterbury-based company has decided to lay off 5 percent of its workforce, the majority of whom work out of Vermont offices. In addition the Vermont layoffs, the company also has said that it will cut 130 additional employees based in other offices.

Keurig hopes that some of those without jobs will find work in the 75 production jobs opening up in Waterbury and Williston. Gov. Peter Shumlin has also asked the Department of Labor to set up a job fair, providing those recently unemployed with new options.
