A man was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly carjacked a woman with her infant in a Brockton mall parking lot, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Police said they arrested Jose Robles, 32, of Taunton, after he crashed the woman’s car into a telephone pole in Stoughton while fleeing police.

According to police, Robles stole the woman’s 2007 Toyota Camry in the Westgate Mall parking lot just before noon as she was putting her child into a car seat. Police said Robles, holding what police later identified as a pellet gun, demanded that the woman give him her car keys.

Soon after, a state police trooper located the car, occupied by Robles, and pursued the vehicle through Stoughton, according to police. After crashing into the telephone pole, Robles fled on foot before police took him into custody. The pellet gun was found in a snowbank, police said.

Robles was charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license, and failure to stop for police.
