Brockton boy dies month after fall through ice
BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — A 12-year-old Brockton boy who spent a month in the hospital after falling through the thin ice of a pond has died.
The Enterprise reports that the principal of his school sent an email to staff saying that Charles ‘‘CJ’’ Thompson died Monday.
Charles and a 9-year-old boy fell through the ice on the pond on Jan. 9.
While the younger boy survived, Charles was trapped under the ice for several minutes before passers-by and firefighters pulled him free.
He was without a heartbeat and not breathing but regained a pulse on the way to the hospital.
Charles had been in a coma at Tufts Medical Center in Boston before he died.
He was a sixth-grader at Plouffe Academy.
