Fenway bar, where fatal Thanksgiving shooting took place, closes its doors
Who’s on First, the Fenway bar that was the scene of fatal shooting on Thanksgiving last year, has closed its doors for good, The Boston Globe reports.
Residents applauded the announcement of the closure that was made Tuesday night by Red Sox executives, according to the Globe.
“The violence that occurred outside our doors this past fall was unacceptable,’’ Red Sox spokeswoman Zineb Curran told the Globe. “Safety is paramount in our continued effort to make Fenway Park and our neighborhood a welcoming environment for our fans, employees, and neighbors.’’
The bar had been closed since the shooting death of 29-year-old Jephthe Chery, an MBTA conductor. Following the shooting the Red Sox provided investigators with surveillance footage that captured the event, according to the Globe. The team was not the owner or operator of the bar.
“The neighborhood feels like they won the battle,’’ Lauren Dewey Platt, president of the Fenway Community Center’s Board of Directors, told the Globe. “I’m thrilled for Jephthe Chery’s family. Unfortunately, it comes too late for them.’’
