Blizzard warning issued for Martha’s Vineyard, Block Island
The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island as the historical winter storm continues its way up the east coast.
The warning, in effect from 1 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday, means that winds greater than 35 miles per hour are expected, with drifting snow, poor visibility and whiteout conditions.

The “brunt’’ of the storm — with heavy snow and blizzard conditions — will occur Saturday afternoon into the evening, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall could reach 1 to 2 inches an hour at times with wind gusts up to 55 m.p.h.
The weather agency also issued a coastal flood watch for the Massachusetts coastline for Sunday morning.
