Norton teens came face-to-face with home intruder, police say

Two teens were at home in Norton Wednesday evening when a would-be-thief broke in, according to police.

The teens told police a man came into the house — possibly through a window — and fled when he encountered them.

Norton police responded to search the area with help from the State Police K-9 Unit and discovered Stephen Mudge, 45, of Norton, near the residence.

Mudge was arrested and is facing charges of breaking and entering in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony while placing a person in fear, larceny from a building, and possession of a class E substance, police said.

Mudge’s bail was set at $25,000 in Attleboro District Court Thursday.
