Officials identify victim in fatal Roslindale hit-and-run

Silvia Acosta was in a crosswalk, walking across Washington Street on Tuesday evening, when she was struck by a car that then left the area, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office. The 78-year-old later died of her injuries at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

The driver, 24 year-old Jaidys Pimental-Pena, was arraigned Wednesday in West Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation and leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury or death, according to the DA’s office.

Authorities said Pimental-Pena returned to the scene of the crash and made statements to police admitting she was aware she struck a person but didn’t stop.

Pimental-Pena’s bail was set at $1,000, and the judge ordered her not to drive while the case is ongoing. She is due back in court on February 22.
