Mass. police chiefs join call for mandatory fingerprinting of Uber drivers

AP

The Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association wants mandatory fingerprinting for drivers working for ride-hailing companies like Uber, The Boston Globe reports.

“There is no dispute that biometrics, like fingerprints, serve as the best way to identify any individual,’’ the association said in a letter recently submitted to state legislators.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Boston Police Commissioner William Evans have both expressed support for mandatory fingerprinting for the ride-hailing drivers, which is already being used in New York, according to the Globe.

There are three proposed bills being considered by the state’s joint Committee on Financial Services for regulation of the ride-hailing services.
