Cape Cod teen dies after being struck by car driven by 94-year-old

Wyatt Maskell was crossing Route 28 near the intersection of Mill Lane in South Yarmouth around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was hit by a car.

Yarmouth police said in a statement Thursday officers found the 19-year-old in the eastbound lane, suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was medflighted to Rhode Island Hospital where he died overnight from his injuries.

Police said the initial investigation of the crash revealed the car that struck the teen from West Yarmouth was driven by 94-year-old Thema Fields of West Dennis.

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
