‘Whitey’ Bulger’s longtime girlfriend to plead guilty to federal contempt charge

Catherine Greig, the longtime girlfriend of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger, plans to plead guilty to a criminal contempt charge for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating whether others helped Bulger evade capture, according to The Boston Globe. There is no plea agreement, Greig’s attorney told the Globe.

The charge was brought against Greig, 64, last September. Her lawyer told the judge that Greig would rather plead guilty than go to trial on the new contempt charge. Greig was not present at Monday’s hearing at the John Joseph Moakley US District Courthouse in Boston, according to the Globe.

Greig is currently serving an eight-year prison term for helping Bulger avoid capture during a 16-year manhunt by police.
