Nelson the puppy gets his forever home just in time for Christmas

Nelson met his new sibling, Mugsy, last week. MSPCA-Angell

Nelson, the Shar Pei-pug puppy who was rescued by MSPCA-Angell earlier this month, has been adopted.

MSPCA-Angell announced the “breaking’’ news on Facebook on Wednesday, saying they’d received over 1,000 email inquiries about the adorable pup and over 50 adoption applications.

Nelson was critically ill when he was brought to MSPCA-Angell, where surgeons performed emergency surgery. The pup had been shipped for 20 hours in a small cage from Missouri to a buyer in Massachusetts.

Nelson’s new home will be in Saugus with Chuck Rees and Kayla Penney. His new family will include a sibling — a Shar Pei named Mugsy — who he got to know last week at the MSPCA adoption center in Jamaica Plain. Mugsy himself was in the news in 2013 when he contracted a rare, flesh-eating bacteria and spent a month at MSPCA-Angell recovering.
