No, that’s not snow on the Boston Common

It’s not fake snow, either.

If you happened to see the white dust that’s been “chilling’’ on the Boston Common since last evening, you were probably pretty surprised.

We may as well be living in Southern California right about now with the way the weather has been lately, so what is the meaning behind this dusting on the Common?

Don’t get too excited–it’s not actually snow.

It’s also not someone laying down fake snow in an act of rebellion against Mother Nature. It’s lime.

The Boston Globe reports that local landscapers Friends of the Public Garden are laying it down on the lawn to treat the grass and prepare it for next spring.

It’s the picturesque winter scene without the biting cold that typically accompanies a snowfall. So head over to the Common and get your not-so-authentic winter view of the lawn before the lime melts–er, disappears.
