A Randolph man was arrested on drug trafficking charges Tuesday after Boston and state police intercepted a delivery of more than 200 grams of cocaine hidden in a Christmas-themed UPS package, according to the Suffolk County’s District Attorney’s office.

Nonso Obiora, 28, was arraigned in Dorchester Municipal Court Wednesday.

Last week, a UPS facility received a package from Colombia addressed to a “Victor Velasquez’’ with a Dorchester residence. UPS personnel presented it to Custom and Border Protection agents to be inspected, according to the DA’s office.

Agents found the package contained Christmas decorations, including two cardboard tubes wrapped in red, glittery foil. They removed the bases of the tubes and found 230 grams of cocaine, authorities said.

After an investigation, police found no records of anyone by the name of “Velasquez’’ at the address, but the resident who answered the door signed for the package during a controlled delivery. She was then informed the package contained a large amount of cocaine.

The resident worked with investigators to make arrainments for the intended recipient to pick up the package at around 3 p.m. on Monday, authorities said. Obiora arrived at the apartment, took the package, and was arrested as he tried to leave, according to the DA’s office.

Obiora is expected to return to court on January 5.
