The Harvard Band took over the Red Line with “All I Want for Christmas,’’ and it was great

Turns out the Yale Glee Club isn’t the only collegiate musical group bringing musical holiday cheer to the trains of New England. The Harvard University Band serenaded commuters on the Red Line Tuesday night with a rendition of Mariah Carey’s modern-day Christmas classic “All I Want for Christmas.’’

According to Red Line passenger Alyssa Hassan, eight to ten members of the band — carrying instruments including the saxaphone, tuba, snare drum, and trombone — got on at Park Street. The group didn’t begin playing until the train had reached Central Square Station, and after a few minutes of music, the band members got off at Harvard Square to applause.

This wasn’t the first time the Harvard Band was out bringing the holiday cheer around Boston today. A larger contingent was spotted a few hours earlier playing “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’’ at Downtown Crossing.

Seems like even without snow, the holiday spirit is in full swing around Boston.
