The police department in Chelmsford is offering to tow your car for free if you’ve had too much to drink this holiday season.

The police Athletic League will offer free tows and rides anywhere in the Merrimack Valley to Chelmsford residents as part of a “Tow Drunk To Drive’’ initiative that starts November 25 and ends New Year’s Day.

It’s a partnership with Christopher’s Towing Company, a local business. People can call the tow company or the police department—no questions asked—to get picked up along with their vehicle and taken home.

“Safety is always our number one priority, and we want to ensure that our residents can enjoy their holiday without taking the risk of getting behind the wheel after drinking. We have lost too many lives as a result of drunk driving and hope this program discourages this,’’ Police Chief James Spinney said in a statement.

With every person who utilizes the program, the athletic league will donate $20 to “a worthy cause.’’

If you need a free ride or tow, call 978-452-7433 or 978-256-2521.
