Three Arlington officers given life saving award for response to fire
Three Arlington police officers received the Massachusetts Police Association’s Life Saving Award for their work alerting and evacuating residents during a deadly May fire, according to Arlington police.
At approximately 4 a.m. on May 5, Sgt. Bryan Gallagher, Officer Steven Conroy, and Officer Will Milner responded to a fire at the Arizona Terrace apartment complex in Arlington.
All three officers worked independently to kick open doors and alert sleeping residents, police said. The fire had engulfed an entire side of the building.
The officers were successful in evacuating the entire complex, with the exception of one resident who could not be reached due to the severity of the flames, according to police.
“These three officers entered an extremely dangerous situation, putting their lives on the line to save dozens of others,’’ Police Chief Frederick Ryan said. “Their bravery and dedication deserve to be recognized and commended, and we are certainly proud to call them our own.’’
The officers received the award at the 115th Annual MPA Conference in Hyannis.
