Police are investigating a crash near Revere Beach that killed an elderly pedestrian

Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of a Saturday crash near Revere Beach that killed an elderly pedestrian.

Police said Allen Flynn, 86, of Revere, was crossing Revere Beach Boulevard around 10 a.m. in a marked crosswalk near Bianchi’s Pizza toward the beach wall when he was struck by a 2003 Honda Civic.

The preliminary investigation has indicated that the 21-year-old driver from East Boston “made a hard brake application’’ before Flynn was struck, according to police. Flynn was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries, where he later died, police said.

Police said it remains to be determined if criminal charges will be filed against the driver.
