After an eight-month long international search, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum has named its new director.

Peggy Fogelman, a Connecticut native, will take over the post in January, according to a Boston Globe report.

Fogelman, 54, is currently the director of collections at The Morgan Library & Museum in New York, which like the Gardner, began from a private collection.

“I was not interested in becoming a director for the sake of being a director,’’ Fogelman told the Globe. “I kind of fell in love with the museum. It was a dance of seduction, and I was completely won over.’’

Outgoing director Anne Hawley, who held the position for more than 25 years, called Fogelman’s hire a “home run’’ for the museum.
