Haverhill police arrest 19 people, recover 15 guns in investigation with feds
Nineteen people were arrested and 15 guns were seized on Wednesday as part of a joint investigation by Haverhill police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
Haverhill police said sawed-off shotguns, assault rifles, and handguns were among the firearms recovered. Narcotics including heroin, cocaine, and oxycodone were also seized.
State police and the DEA assisted with the arrests.
So far 27 people have been charged as part of the joint investigation into firearm trafficking and the distribution of illegal narcotics, Haverhill police said.
“This case remains open, other individuals have been charged, and are being actively sought at this time,’’ said Detective Captain Robert Pistone in a statement. “The Haverhill Police Department is grateful to the ATF for recognizing the need to disrupt violent gun activity in the city, and committing significant resources that lead to the dozens of illegal firearm and narcotics arrests.’’
