Police investigating shooting near Northeastern University
A man was shot on Huntington Avenue near Northeastern University Tuesday afternoon, according to Boston Police.
Police said the shooting was not a random act.
“We believe [the victim] was targeted,’’ Police Commissioner William Evans said at the scene.
The man, in his late teens or early 20s, suffered several gunshot wounds and was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Evans said. “It’s touch-and-go,’’ he said Tuesday evening. “We hope he pulls through.’’
After the shooting, Northeastern issued an alert warning students to avoid the area, near 319 Huntington Avenue. However, Evans said the shooting had “nothing to do with the university.’’
Evans said, fortunately, no one else was hurt.
“When these kids go after each other, they don’t really care who’s in the area,’’ he said. “They don’t really care who they might hit or who might be collateral damage.’’
