Route 1 icon Weylu’s demolished

First Hilltop, now Weylu’s. Another Route 1 icon has met its end.
The demolition of Weylu’s, the iconic Chinese restaurant in Saugus, began early Wednesday, according to a Boston Globe report. The site of a once thriving 1,500-seat restaurant, the building had fallen into disrepair since it was abandoned in 2009.
The owners of the property are planning to build a mixed-use development in its place.
