There’s a new recruit with the Boston Police Department — an adorable 9-week-old Belgian Shepherd.

But he still needs a name. And if you have an idea for one, the department wants to know. You can send your suggestions to [email protected].

Boston police said in a tweet Tuesday night that they received 1,000 suggestions in less than an hour.

The department’s head of K-9 training says names suggested should be no more than two syllables, and be strong and commanding, like “Bronson’’ or “Solo.’’ The new rookie is being groomed for patrol and explosive ordinance detection duties, according to Boston police.

If you suggest the name that ends up being this little guy’s name, you’ll get a Boston Police patch for your efforts.
