New Englanders see the Northern Lights

The Aurora Borealis lit up the sky across Northern New England on Monday night.

Vath Sok sat alone in the middle of a field in Franconia, New Hampshire after the sun set and watched the sky dance above him.

Sok drove from Woburn to Franconia on Monday night specifically to see the Northern Lights. This was his second time witnessing them, but said the lights were much better than what he saw in September 2014.

Unlike in the fall, he said he could see the lights clearly from 10 p.m. Monday night until 2 or 3 in the morning.

“I haven’t slept,’’ Sok said midday Tuesday. “It was incredible, just me and my GoPro and my camera watching the colors move so fast until the clouds rolled in, and they disappeared.’’

It might be possible to view the Northern Lights until Thursday evening, but sightings are notoriously difficult to predict.
