No Verdict Today in Case of Tsarnaev Friend

Jury deliberations in the trial of former UMass Dartmouth student Azamat Tazhayakov, accused of helping Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev dispose of evidence, will resume Monday, The Boston Globe reported yesterday. The Globe said that the deliberations scheduled for today were cancelled due to US District Judge Douglas Woodlock having a prior commitment.

The trial began deliberating on Wednesday, after both sides presented closing arguments. On Tuesday, a videoshowing Tazhayakov and Tsarnaev entering a UMass Dartmouth gym together the day after the marathon bombing was released as evidence.

Tazhayakov, 20, pleaded not guilty to obstruction of justice and conspiracy charges. He is accused of removing evidence from Tsarnaev’s UMass Dartmouth dorm room after the bombing.
