Newton native ‘wicked excited’ to be in ‘MasterChef’ season finale

MasterChef contestant Jason Wang hopes to bring the grand prize back to Newton in the season finale Wednesday night.

The Newton South High School graduate and now music teacher told Metro Boston heās āwicked excitedā to make the finale of the reality cooking show, and āthrilled to represent New England, Massachusetts, Boston and Newton.ā
He auditioned for MasterChef during an open casting call in Boston last year, according to Wicked Local Newton.
In his interview with Metro, Wang also gave some recommendations for Bostonās āamazingā food scene–particularly Hei La Moon for dim sum, Island Creek Oyster Bar, and Eastern Standard.
As one of three finalists, Wang has a chance to claim a cookbook deal and the $250,000 grand prize. The two-hour season finale for the eighth season of MasterChef airs at 8 p.m. Wednesday on Fox.
