For at least one last time, Larry David plays Bernie Sanders for a (very brief) unity moment with Hillary Clinton on SNL

As Saturday Night Live‘s 41st season wrapped up in last night’s finale, Larry David returned for at least one last time to play Bernie Sanders.

The Vermont senator (David) joined fellow Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) at bar that is about to close.

And, as so in primaries, he refuses to leave.

“I’m actually closing up the bar right now, so everybody’s gotta go,” the bartender (Kenan Thompson) tells Clinton.

“That means to you too, sir,” he adds to Sanders, hitting just out of frame.

Sanders, however, insists that he can stay as long as he wants (just as Clinton did in 2008).

“Oh, hello Bernie,” Clinton says, turning to greet her opponent. “I didn’t see you sitting behind me—so far behind me you could never catch up.”

As of last week, Clinton led Sanders by 274 pledged delegates. Taking into account unpledged superdelegates, that lead balloons to more than 700 and brings the former secretary of state inches from clinching the nomination.

Amid the contentious race, many have speculated about if or when Clinton and Sanders will come together for a showing a party unity, much like President Barack Obama and Clinton did in 2008.

Well, their two counterparts did have a unifying moment Saturday night, even if it was very brief.

After reminiscing about some moments on the campaign trail over beers, Clinton and Sanders (McKinnon and David) unite for once last dance. Literally.

“I’ll lead,” Sanders suggests.

“Never,” Clinton replies, taking command as the two dance from the bar sketch stage, onto the SNL main stage, and through a cheering audience—before she ditches Sanders into a closing elevator.
