A major MBTA shutdown went into effect Monday, impacting all of the Green Line’s downtown stops and portions of its branches.
Through Dec. 22, the Green Line‘s main branch from Kenmore to North Station, as well as the B branch from Kenmore to Babcock Street and the entire E branch, is closed to train service so the transit agency can fix a nearly 130-year-old tunnel piece, the MBTA announced last month.
The C and D branches will only run from Kenmore to Cleveland Circle and Riverside, respectively.
Shuttle buses will pick up riders at Kenmore or along the B branch, beginning at Babcock Street, and bring them as far as Back Bay. From there, the MBTA encourages riders to use the Orange Line to access downtown stops.
The transit agency also recommends the 39 bus for E branch riders and the 57 for those along the B branch.
Riders should prepare to add at least 20 extra minutes to their travel times, according to the MBTA.
