The MBTA announced several T closures in November on the Orange, Green, Red, and Framingham/Worcester lines.

The Green and Red lines will both see nine-day shutdowns, for protection system installation and revitalization work, respectively.

The Framingham/Worcester Line will see two shutdowns across four weekends total.

The MBTA will also install signal upgrades on the Orange Line and track, signal, and culvert upgrades on the Framingham/Worcester Line.

Orange Line

There will be two weekend shutdowns on the Orange Line in November.

From Nov. 1 to 2, service will be suspended between North Station and Forest Hills.

Shuttle buses will replace service between Forest Hills and Back Bay and will also stop at Copley. For service between Back Bay and North Station, riders should utilize the Green Line, which will operate more frequently during the Orange Line suspension, or the Commuter Rail.

Green Line

Green Line service will be suspended for nine days between Park Street and Medford/Tufts.

The suspension will begin at approximately 8 p.m. on Nov. 4 and continue through Nov. 13.

Shuttle buses will replace service between North Station and Medford/Tufts. For service between Park Street and North Station, riders should utilize the Orange Line, which is accessible from the Winter Street concourse connecting Park Street and Downtown Crossing.

Shuttle buses will not stop at Union Square. For service to that station, riders can utilize the 109, 91, or 87 bus routes.

Additionally, Cleveland Circle trains will terminate at Kenmore station during the shutdown.

Riders traveling from Park Street and Medford/Tufts should allocate an additional 45 minutes for their commute during this suspension, the MBTA advised.

Red Line

Like the Green Line, the Red Line’s Braintree Branch will be shut down for nine days for infrastructure upgrades, track renewal, and other critical revitalization work, the MBTA said.

The Braintree Branch will be replaced by shuttle buses between North Quincy and Braintree from Nov. 15 to 23.

Braintree Branch riders are encouraged to the take the Middleborough, Kingston, and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines fare-free during the shutdown. The Commuter Rail trains operate every 20 to 30 minutes and will have added cars during the suspension.

Red Line riders traveling to Park Street from Braintree should anticipate an additional 35 minutes during their commute.

Framingham/Worcester Line

The Framingham/Worcester Commuter Rail Line will be replaced by shuttle buses during four weekends in November.

The first suspension will occur between South Station and Framingham from Nov. 1 to 2 and Nov. 8 to 9.

Shuttle buses will operate in four routes between South Station and Framingham:

  • Shuttle Bus Route 1 will operate between Framingham, West Natick, Natick Center, Wellesley Square, Wellesley Hills, and South Station.
  • Shuttle Bus Route 2 will operate between Wellesley Hills, Riverside on the Green Line D Branch for connections to the subway, Auburndale, West Newton, Newtonville, Boston Landing, and South Station.

Riders taking express shuttle buses should allot for 20 additional minutes for their commute, and riders on local shuttle buses should allot for an additional 70 minutes.

Service between Framingham and Worcester will be fare-free during the suspension.

The second shutdown will occur between Framingham and Worcester on the weekends of Nov. 15 to 16 and Nov. 22 to 23.

Local shuttle buses will make all the stops between Framingham and Worcester whereas the express shuttle bus will only operate at the Worcester and Framingham stops.

Riders taking the local shuttle bus should allocate for an additional 40 minutes for their commute, but riders on the express shuttle do not need to allot for a longer commute, the MBTA said.
