Some ferries canceled thanks to Erin’s rough surf

The Lynn, Quincy, and Winthrop ferries were canceled Friday, according to the MBTA.

Some ferry services continue to be impacted this week by the severe weather offshore due to Hurricane Erin.

The Lynn, Quincy, and Winthrop ferries were canceled Friday, according to the MBTA.

Additionally, the transit authority said to expect minor delays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the Charlestown, East Boston, and Hingham/Hull ferries “while the USS Constitution is being escorted through Boston Harbor.”

The Steamship Authority also issued a travel advisory for its services, saying that it is closely monitoring water conditions.

Several trips initially set to go to Oak Bluffs were diverted to Vineyard Haven on the Martha’s Vineyard-Woods Hole route, according to the ferry operator. Service cancellations also affected the Hyannis-Nantucket route.

“Due to the forecast, we are waiving change and cancellation fees for all travel scheduled for today,” the advisory noted.

The National Weather Service warned that strong winds will continue through the afternoon, affecting waters around the Cape and Islands especially.

“Large breaking waves continue to be a threat today through Saturday evening. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions expected along with localized beach erosion,” the agency noted.
