Part of the Orange Line is closed this week. Here’s what to know.
Orange Line service will be suspended from Forest Hills to Back Bay during the week, and the suspension will be extended through North Station this weekend.
The MBTA has suspended parts of Orange Line service this week for signal upgrades.
Work began Saturday and Sunday, impacting riders from Forest Hills to North Station, but will be limited to the stretch between Back Bay and Forest Hills on weekdays, according to the MBTA. Work will extend again from Forest Hills to North Station this weekend.
The agency said the service closures aim to “significantly increase operational efficiency and improve scheduling reliability for all riders.” The work will also allow for the agency to add more cars, creating space for 30,000 more riders per day, according to WBZ NewsRadio.

Riders can access shuttle bus alternatives all week, as well as the Franklin/Foxboro, Needham, or Providence/Stoughton Commuter Rail lines for service to Forest Hills, Ruggles, Back Bay, and South Station. Regular fares will apply to regular service after Forest Hills, according to the MBTA.
The Route 39 bus will be fare free. Riders can also use the code JUN2150RNG to unlock BlueBikes for free five times, the agency noted.
