The Fairmount Commuter Rail line, which originates at Readville Station in Hyde Park and terminates at South Station, will undergo service changes starting in June and running through this fall due to track replacements.
A construction schedule will be placed on the Fairmount Line on June 2 as it goes through track replacement work worth $12 million to improve service and prepare the line for battery-electric cars in 2028, MBTA partner Keolis wrote in a statement.
Services will be limited between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on both weekdays and weekends, when commuters can consider MBTA buses for alternative service, Keolis said.
On the weekends during the same hours, three inbound and four outbound trains will travel between Readville Station and South Station on the Franklin Line instead of the Fairmount Line.
Nearly 30 miles of new rail will be replaced on the Fairmount Line, along with the completion of other projects such as deep cleaning all stations and trains, removing graffiti, cleaning trash, clearing brush, and improving drainage, according to the statement.
Construction schedules on the Lowell and Newburyport/Rockport lines will end and mid-day trains will be added back to the schedule on June 2, the statement said. The Lowell Line’s Winchester Center station, which was under reconstruction, will reopen in early June, and track work was also completed on the Newburyport/Rockport Line.
