Wayward Amazon crates cause traffic slowdown on Route 1

The carts were cleared late Monday morning, an Amazon spokesperson told NBC10 Boston.

Some abandoned Amazon crates caused a traffic jam on Route 1 in Revere on Monday, NBC10 Boston reported.

Aerial footage captured by NBC10 Boston showed Massachusetts Department of Transportation workers clearing the large rollaway bins from the breakdown lane. In the footage, the tall bins are clearly marked with the Amazon logo.

Massachusetts State Police confirmed they sent a cruiser to assist with the traffic disruption. MSP told NBC10 that they received a report of four abandoned crates on the side of the road Monday morning.

A spokesperson for Amazon told NBC10 Boston the carts had been fully removed from the highway. The spokesperson also said they are working with law enforcement on an investigation of the incident.

The traffic incident happened on Cyber Monday, during which Amazon promised “unlimited fast, free delivery on over 300 million items” for Prime members, including same-day delivery.

Representatives for Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
