The MBTA said the shutdown will improve Braintree branch travel times by 24 minutes.

Another shutdown is coming to the MBTA starting Friday, officials are reminding riders. The MBTA will suspend all Red Line Braintree Branch service between JFK/UMass and Braintree from Sept. 6 to 29 due to track work.

Shuttle buses will replace Red Line stops at Braintree, Quincy Adams, Quincy Center, Wollaston, and North Quincy. Red Line shuttle buses will end at Ashmont.

MBTA officials said they “strongly encourage” Red Line riders to use the Middleborough, Kingston, and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines during the shutdown for free. However, stops on those lines will be replaced with shuttle buses during the weekends of Sept. 7 to 8 and 14 to 15. Shuttle buses running from Braintree to South Station will replace service during those weekends.

The shutdown covers much of the Red Line Braintree Branch.

“The MBTA understands how these service changes affect riders’ daily travels during this period, but we are committed to improving your travels long term with more reliable, timely, and safe service,” the statement from the MBTA said. “We thank riders for their patience as we deliver this important work and for continuing to ride our system.”

These shutdowns will allow the MBTA to repair 18 miles of Red Line track, the statement said. The MBTA said new repairs will improve Braintree Branch travel times by 24 minutes.
