More construction is hitting the MBTA this spring as it attempts to improve the system’s speed and reliability. The Orange Line in particular will be facing various closures starting this Friday and lasting until June 6.

Starting at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17 and continuing through the weekend, service will be suspended on the Orange Line between Oak Grove and North Station.

This suspension also includes the Haverhill Line of the Commuter Rail, which will be suspended between Reading and North Station.

Then on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, service between Oak Grove and North Station will cease every night from 8:30 p.m. through the end of each day’s service. The Commuter Rail will be free during that time between North Station and Oak Grove.

The stations between Back Bay and Wellington are the most impacted during this stretch of repairs. Service between those stops will be completely suspended at all times from May 28 through June 6. The MBTA will offer shuttle service between Wellington and North Station, but riders will be asked to use the Green Line between North Station and Copley.

There are no shutdowns scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, May 25-27.

While the Orange Line will be affected the longest, the MBTA also has plans for the Green, Red, and Commuter Rail lines this spring. The last scheduled Red Line suspension is this weekend, May 18-19, between Broadway and Braintree stations.

For all of the construction, fares will be free at the downed stations, and accessible shuttle buses or alternative trains will be made available.
